FEH BOCES Learning Technologies For Blended Learning in Modern Classrooms.
Creating Project Transformation
Led by FEH BOCES, the grant consortium is comprised of six of the nine school districts in the FEH BOCES area: Brushton-Moira, Chateaugay, Malone, Salmon River, St. Regis Falls, and Tupper Lake. In this rural region, an average of 58.5% of the students are classified as economically disadvantaged, 19.5% are classified as students with disabilities, and chronic absenteeism ranges from 15%- 46.70%.
Grant for Innovation
Project Transformation will provide students with access to a blended, self-paced, master-based classroom. As students interact with various learning technologies, they will be provided opportunities to own their learning through rigorous, differentiated personalized learning opportunities, which will allow them to exhibit mastery of the content.
Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES, in cooperation with six of its component districts, has won a Learning Technologies Grant through the New York State Education Department to develop and implement this innovative project.
Project Transformation aims to teach students technology skills, social/emotional intelligence, and cultural competencies necessary for success in college, career, and citizenship.
Phase 1: Professional Development
From those six districts, 50 teachers and leaders representing a cross-section of grade levels and content areas will participate in collaborative professional development exercises. Through this training, they will explore personalized learning, mastery-based grading, and embedding elements of Project-Based Learning in their lessons.
