Three students smile for a photo

Each year, our New Vision Government and Law students work with the Franklin County Board of Elections to train as poll workers, then to help staff polling sites throughout northern Franklin County. Rhea Work, the class’s public relations representative, provided this insightful write-up on Election Day:

Debrief from 2022 midterm election

As you know, the seniors from the Law and Government program worked the midterm election on 11/8/22. To my surprise, I felt as though it was actually one of the most positive learning experiences we’ve had throughout our senior year so far. Each student went to their town's election site and came back with many different stories to share with the class. From the small towns of Dickinson and Hogansburg, they had near record turnouts for the midterm elections. Even adults who had never before voted came to cast their vote. Every student thought very highly of the training which was provided previous to the election, and the fellow election workers that helped us throughout the night. This was a very positive experience for all of us and we were very thankful for the opportunity to help the community.

One of Rhea’s classmates, Carson Hanna, even got on the news. Local TV station NBC5 visited a few Franklin County polling sites, and Carson was interviewed by the reporter. Click here to watch the news story.
