TEACHER CERTIFICATION

The Regional Certification Office provides evaluative and consultant services to teachers, paraprofessionals and administrators requesting individual certificates. This regional office is empowered to evaluate credentials and make recommendations for provisional/initial or permanent/professional certification in the following areas: elementary, secondary academic, special subjects, reading, special education, teaching assistant, pupil personnel services, and school administrator and supervisor. Certification for school district administrator and career and technical education are handled only by the Albany office. However the regional office acts as a transmittal agent for those desiring to submit this information locally.

Individuals interested in obtaining New York State certification must submit a completed application together with official transcripts of college work and the appropriate fee. This material is evaluated and if the candidate meets New York State certification requirements, the recommendation for certification is forwarded to the State Education Department. When an individual does not meet certification requirements, a formal evaluation of the applicant's credentials showing specific deficiencies is provided by the regional office.
