The Career and Technical Education (CTE) program offers an array of specialized courses at two locations, the Adirondack Educational Center in Saranac Lake and the North Franklin Educational Center in Malone. The current course offerings are:

Each course curriculum is updated continually in order to keep students in tune with the many changes in business and industry as well as meeting the New York State Standards in Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS).
Students from nine school districts are afforded the opportunity to participate in either one or two-year courses. Most CTE students will complete a sequence in CTE, receive training for an entry level position for future employment or satisfy introductory course requirements at the college level. The Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES has articulation agreements allowing students to earn college credits for completing certain CTE courses.
Students spend approximately 2 ½ hours in the CTE program each day. They spend the remainder of the day at the home school enrolled in required academic courses. Modules of instruction are offered in theory and hands-on performance. Academic coursework is integrated in the CTE courses to grant students credit in meeting graduation requirements: 3rd year of Math, 3rd year of Science and 4th year of English Language Arts. Work experience in business and industry is also included in the course of study.
CTE programs provide secondary students of all ability levels with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, competencies and behaviors that lead toward success in their chosen careers and further training and education while working toward a CTE endorsed High School Diploma.
NEW VISION

New Vision is an innovative program primarily for highly motivated, academically successful high school seniors who are interested in any facet of a hospital setting, from the management of a facility to the operating room. Students may receive English and Social Studies credit in addition to Career and Technical Education credit. Students must show a strong degree of independence in directing their own educational environment.

Prevocational Alternative Student
System is a program
for at-risk students, primarily 14-16 years old, in grades nine and ten, who have a high
potential for dropping out of school. The
program is offered at the Adirondack Educational Center in Saranac Lake, New York. Students are identified by their home school
district and are those who demonstrate poor attendance, lack of motivation, poor academic
achievement and/or poor interpersonal skills. Emphasis
is on English and Social Studies academic requirements while exposing students to a
vocational education through courses such as Introduction to Occupations and Home
Economics Cores.
Students have the option of attending
the Center either in the morning or afternoon session during the regular school year. Students earn credits toward their high school
diploma in Art, Health, Global Studies 1 and 2, English 9 and 10, Food & Nutrition,
Human Development, and Introduction to Occupations.
The program objectives are to develop self-esteem, improve academic skills, develop a commitment to completing high school, and prepare for a smooth transfer into a Career & Technical Education program. A counseling component provides, as needed, individual and weekly group sessions concentrating upon social, behavioral and prevocational skills.
