THE DISTRICT

The Malone Central School District currently maintains five buildings for instructional purposes:  Davis Elementary (Pre-Kindergarten - 2), Flanders Elementary (3-5), St. Joseph's Elementary (3-5), Malone Middle School (6-8), and Franklin Academy High School (9-12).  In addition, Malone Central School District operates the Incarcerated Youth Program at the Franklin County Jail which is located within the geographic boundaries of the district.  In total, the Malone Central School District educates 2500 students and employs 235 instructional staff and 220 support staff.  A capital expansion and renovation program at the Davis Elementary School was completed in September 1999.  This allowed for the expansion of pre-kindergarten services (66 students ) and the implementation of  full day kindergarten.  The Flanders and St. Joseph's Elementary Schools are organized in a grade three through five format.   As intermediate grade elementary schools, each building offers a program designed for the needs of the intermediate grade student.  These buildings are located in the center of the Malone Village within a distance of one-eighth mile.  This helps to promote professional collaboration and curriculum continuity.

During the 2007-2008 school year, a new core ELA program is being implemented in Grades K-5.  Use of the Harcourt Storytown Program will lead to greater consistency in ELA instruction and enhanced literacy development for our students.

The Malone Middle School is currently organized for grades six through eight with a format of two instructional teams at each grade level.  This is in keeping with a middle school philosophy providing the necessary transition from the elementary to the secondary level.  This format, including a team of core teachers with participation of teaching staff from specialized instructional areas, provides a comprehensive design to meet the needs of students at this developmental level.  During the 2007-2008 school year, Project Lead the Way is being implemented in the technology classes in Grades 6 and 8.  Additional staffing will enhance the inclusionary model for our special education students in the Intensive Support Program and for students receiving resource services.

Franklin Academy High School is organized in the traditional grade nine through twelve structure.  The instructional and extra-curricular programs are diverse and provide significant challenge, including extensive offerings in Advanced Placement and Collegiate courses.  A major renovation/expansion project was completed at Franklin Academy High School in the fall of 2003.  This allowed for major upgrades in science labs, technology labs, data communications infrastructure, library media center, physical education facilities and a distance learning facility.  Mr. Jerry Griffin began on July 1, 2007 as the building principal replacing long-time teacher and principal, Donald Merrick.

Each building has produced an individual profile that is available upon request by contacting the principal of the respective buildings.  MCSD also has a district-wide profile and video available at http://www.malone.k12.ny.us .  The website also has  pages for each building and various programs.

The MCSD contracts with Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES for services including Occupational Education, New Visions, Special Education, Performing Arts, College Enrichment for High School Students, Alternative Education grades 7-10, GED, Summer School, Library Media Services, School Improvement, Model Schools, Computer Instructional Support Services, Computer Administrative Services, Coordination of Interscholastic Sports, Printing, Elementary Science Kits, Bus Driver Training, Cooperative Purchasing, Health/Safety/Risk Management, Teacher Certification, Personnel Recruitment, Policy Update, State Aid Planning and Alcohol/Controlled Substance Testing (Bus Drivers).
