THE DISTRICT
The Long Lake Central School is situated in the hamlet of Long Lake, the geographic center of the Adirondack Park. Its approximately 75 (K-12) students receive a virtual private school experience in a public school setting. Class sizes are small, affording ample tutoring and guidance. Despite its small size, the school has an excellent academic reputation, sending its graduates to some of the finest colleges in the United States. The school also offers a variety of extra-curricular musical, dramatic and athletic opportunities.
The Long Lake Central School District belongs to the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton Board of Cooperative Education which provides vocational, special education, psychological and other support services.
The 900 year-round residents of Long Lake enjoy a wilderness setting replete with mountains, lakes, ponds, forests and breath-taking vistas. Opportunities for hiking, canoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing, hunting, fishing, swimming, sailing, snowmobiling, golfing and tennis abound in and around the greater Long Lake area. The town also has an active public library, community choir and theatrical group.
Despite its wilderness locale, Long Lake is only 12 miles from the Adirondack Museum and the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts; 50 miles from the Olympic facilities in Lake Placid and 75 miles from the shops of Lake George and Glens Falls. The cultural delights of Ottawa and Montreal are a three hour drive away.
